Raymond B. Harris military records, 1861-1865.

The collection consists of papers relating to Raymond Harris' Civil War assignments in the 18th Battalion Georgia Volunteers and the 57th Regiment Georgia Volunteers. The papers include a railroad pass, 1864, from Raleigh, N.C., to Smithfield, Va., as well as Harris' certificate of membership in the Confederate Veterans Association of Savannah.

Dr. Raymond B. Harris was born in Bryan County, Georgia, the son of Dr. Raymond Harris. He graduated from Savannah Medical College in 1859. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted as an Assistant Surgeon and was assigned to the First Georgia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, where he served only a few months. He was later assigned to Co. B, 18th Battalion Georgia Volunteers, and then to the 57th Regiment Georgia Volunteers, where he served until the end of the War. After the war he practiced...
